Saw an American eel for sale but I could not find any information on it besides grows to 3 feet, get fat, and eat everything. They said this one was from the Delaware river and had a future as bait for striped bass. It is a little over 1 foot long but super thin. What experience does anyone have with these things and what is the best way to fatten them up?
Thanks for any info you can provide

I've never kept one but I've seen videos on YouTube. I would say cooler water and that normally eels do better when they are in a tank by them self with a group of 3 or more. He would try feeding him worms, krill and fish like foods like silverside of live feeders. Make one big hide in the tank so they all can hangout together. Make suer their is noway out of the tank or you'll wake up to them on the floor. This is what I would do if I had them and this what they said to do with freshwater moray eels. Good luck!

they can grow up to 5 feet or so in aquarium, can be hand feed when big just like cat fish and if you have good hiding places, you will most likely only see them come out when food is around.

These eels make the best pets I have had mine for 9 years. they get so tame they will eat out your hand get excited and wiggle around and are soo cute. I keep mine in between 78-82° a sand bottom is a must cause gravel irritates their bellies. The top must be sealed up any holes need to be plugged up black duck tape works good. Use a glass tops as well they can push up the plastic ones. She gets a few large shrimp per feeding she comes up when she's hungry. I use 3 large tree root ornaments and she hangs out under them most the time with her head sticking out. Females get larger then males and are lighter colored. I have mine in a 125 gl.
