Also, have you thought about the sizes of these fish, tank size etc?

My money is on the gator...sold a 14" gator to a friend and i got the gar back a couple months later when he saw it swimming around with his similiar sized gatf in its mouth :). The gatf was a fatty 14-16" and was used as a chew toy. If ud like a more community friendly gar i suggest a longnose or florida. Trops and gators can be nippy like this at times but you could probably get away with a tropical gar also for a while.

Gators go from babies to foot long or more monsters in less then a year, like others have said the ATF is going to grow much slower. Plus its streamlined shape is perfect to be swallowerd by the gar quite easily

I had two Alligator Gars with my GATF. In my opinion, those two fish can get along but only if they're the same size. But the Alligator gar will grow much faster and eventually eat your GATF. I was worried that my Alligator Gars would eat it before I could separate them, but my Arapaima did instead. :nilly:
