I need am ID on a gar am I the only one that thinks this is an alligator gar? Look at the snout the eyes the color even

I've caught many alligator gars. Not any that look like that thought. Most likely a shortnose. Pretty sure it should have more spots and be more bronze color at that size.

What's the difference of short nose or alligator?

At that size I would say the proportion of the body to head. Shortnose seems smaller and gators are broader and overall larger. Gators have a slight bronze/green tint to their body and spots on the sides and fins when young.

shortnose also have slender body compare to gator gar, their body is even thinner than spotted gar when you look on the side. And gator gar would have the snout look like an alligator when you look from the top.
