Hi folks

Looking into getting a spotted gar, they are around 5"...

My questions are:

What are they like with tank mates? (6" silver arow, big Severum, clown loaches and some dither tinfoils)
Are they easy to get food to / picky feeders?
What's growth rate in comparison to my silver?
Are they aggressive? Active? Fun to watch? What are your opinions on these fish?

Would rather do my home work before I buy, so any info will be a great help.

Thanks in advance :)

I have one at almost 14" living with large oscars, severums, silver aro, JDs, jaguar.
Spotted gars are NOT aggressive however they will eat whatever fits in to their mouths so no small fish in the tank. My gar either stays on top or sits on the substrate. When comes a time to feed he'll be in the center of other fish on top dancing for food. Very awkward swimmers - fun to watch. Gars are usually timid and will never attack fish that will not fit in their mouths. Aggressive fish can pick on the gar, it will and can not defend itself. I feed my gar by hand, already got bitten a few times. It can pick up pieces of shrimp off the bottom on an open space. Eats well, mine grows at around 0.5" a month.
I love my gar.
