I am looking into upgrading to a 150gallon tank. The size says 48" x 24" x 30". My question is about floor support and if I would need to put any in before I went out and invest in this tank. I live in a house built in the 40's. The room it will be going in is wood floor and it would be going on an internal wall.

Would it be better to put it on an exterior wall or the internal wall? The place I was thinking of putting it currently has a 55gallon and a 50ish gallon hex tank.

Any advice would be welcomed.

Id suggest close to a foundation wall, positioned length wise across the joists personally I did a 4x4 beam across the joists in the basement and 4x4 posts down to a concrete floor and 2x4 walls with double top plates to fill out the space but that holds up a 360 and a 120

Hello; A rough estimate for a large tank might be 10 to 12+ pounds per gallon. This can vary with the type of stand and the stuff you put in the tank.
Here is the web address of an article that talks about the issue.

My take is that the question can only be answered by someone with knowledge of structure actually having a look to see what you have and what condition it is in. There have been posts (a link follows) describing damage from tanks from time to time, so it does happen.

In case some missed this thread a while back here is a link to it. A look at the pictures should give pause, they did for me.

Good luck
