So far this thing has been alive throughout almost anything. I do a lot of trimming and aquascaping but the plants grow a lot of stringy roots and seem to die in the middle. I need to add more fertilizer and maybe some carpet plants throughout? I have a 2L bottle of home brewed cO2 piping into it through a small airstone, it's probably not enough, or if someone has a good suggestion for a diy bubble chamber.

Anyway, i'm still pretty happy with this mini jungle. Sorry my pics are so heavily edited, the lighting was weird and these are cell phone pics.

I also attached a pic of my ball python, corn snake, scorpion and tarantula tanks.

I want a tarantula one day.

As for your plants, yah, you need ferts. I think you're fine without co2, but you want ferts. Also, noticing you have african cichlids, I wouldn't bother worrying about doing any carpet plants. Learn about the ferts you'll be needing/wanting and then from there you can look into more plants.

Looking into the ferts thanks. I'll still do the old home brew cO2 it can't hurt.

The spider I have is an Acanthoscuria Brocklehursti, giant brazilian black and white. Love spiders almost as much as fish.

thanks for the heads up about carpet plants.
