New Shortnose Gar - Update on Tropical Gars

Picked up the shortys from the neighborhood market. Tropicals at around 10-11 inches, shortys at around 7 inches.

Really? I have had many floridas none of them have looked like that. Are there different Florida Gar variations?
Yes there are variations in FLG.. You will never see a Shortnosed with spotting patterns like that. The Ventral, anal and Dorsal fins are also much larger. Often if you have a patterned Shortnosed it will have a striped pattern Variations exist but they never have large or distinct spotting near the head.

How large is that one? Mine look similar to that now, but definitely not the same.

I love all of your gars! I cannot seem to find a shortnose, here in Minnesota, but hopefully someday I can add one to my collection! I love how many pattern variants there are with the shortnose gars, not as many as the trops, though. Good luck with them! Keep sharing!
