Clown Loach Barbel Erosion - Will it regrow?

Recently picked up a few clown loaches however I noticed one of them is missing the barbels on the upper mouth. Was wondering if they would grow back. Tried searching and just found people with the same experience but no one with an answer. Anyone have any experience?

I would think there is a good chance as long as they are kept on non-abrasive substrate.
