Love the idea of fluidized bed filters heard they can process lots of waste depending on the sand they can buffer ph and face it they look cool

My question is...

I want to use a gravity fed one on my tank now how would I go about doing water changes when the water stops flowing for that hour or so? Do I add a air pump and bubbler wand turn that on when the water stops? I know if it's shut down for a while the sand compacts bacteria dies and can start a re cycle so any tips?

Gravity fed??
Do u mean water from ur tank into a sump or something, flowing down.
I believe the sand will fall out lol.

Why not use an airpump

The sand will flow straight down.

I once put media inside a hang on back overflow box. The media tumbled a little but not as much as id hope so i took it off.

Im interested on what you come up with

that one still uses air pump.

I dont think it will seize if you do water changes from your sump since the water will still be flowing.

Im not an expert on sumps but i have a good idea how they work
