Emperor 400 or Aquaclear 110?

Both have their pros and cons. I like the Aquaclear because of the amount of media it can hold and the 500 gph turnover. I don't like how they cause very little surface agitation due to the waterfall effect. I like the Emperor for the ease of changing filter pads, it's slightly cheaper (less gph) but I mostly love the amount of surface agitation it produces. I've personally had bad luck with aquaclears so I vote Emperor.

There was a thread yesterday about best hob filter. The top 2 are the ac110 and the emperor 400. Big debate on that. Personally I voted for emperor 400. I have 4 of them and 1 of the smaller version 280.

I actually run both, I have a Emperor 280,400 & Aquaclear 70,100, So I do agree on both sides.

I have 2 ac 110s on my 180 and they provide plenty of surface agitation....I've had both filters I always felt like the emperors felt cheap and flimsy compared to the 110...plus the extra 100 gph on the 110 is nice

Ac110. Its got better flow, superior mech,holds more media and is not as noisy. I have both and prefer the ac over the emp.

I ran both side by side on a90 gal and liked both, 400 was a bit noisier though.
