Got this gar a week ago, looking like a Tropical however it looks, different. It seems to be a hybrid actually as the vendor breeds them himself and claims its a Cuban, I can tell that is not a Cuban gar. Is it purely a Tropical, or a Tropical/other gar specie? Once it grows I'll know for sure.

In the picture above my two other Tropical gar are being displayed with the mystery gar which is in the top right corner above the power head (not in use). You can clearly see a difference in pattern.

In the two pictures below, my one of my Tropical Gars is clearly showing you his pattern which is different than my "Mystery" gar. They do share similarities however in body structure, the mystery gar and my Tropical.

I will keep this thread updated in case anyone on the forum comes across this same sort of "Mystery Gar"

Very cool! How awesome if that was a hybrid!
Thank you! Even though the chances are low, I can't get over the fact of how different he looks in comparison to me other Tropicals which makes me think he's something else.

My "Mystery" gar is clearly displaying his odd looking pattern. He looks a lot like a Tropical, but I am not set on a Tropical quite yet.

-nice looking gars for sure! further development will tell us for sure, so please do keep us posted. from initial images, it's important to remember that Tropical Gars are highly variable in pattern, particularly when young. For now, I would assume just a variant Tropical Gar (we see a lot of these variations in the Mexican farms); doesn't present enough intermediate traits to suggest definite hybrid at this point. again, nice fish!--

I'm sure it's a Tropical now too, however it is different from my other Tropicals and as long as it stays different in pattern I'm more than happy since it expands my collection!

Now that gar is in a new environment, and now that he's grown, he looks exactly like a Tropical. However, he's a nice gar and he'll be one of the two, possibly three gars which I do not sell.
