sulcata gets biggest, What do you mean by dry tortoises? Terrestrial or desert? Alot of the tortoises you posted are more tropical. As for friendliness, that is an opinion. Sulcatas are pretty outgoing but get huge and need alot of care. Red/yellow foots and leopards are too, maybe not quite as much. Pancakes, star, radiated, I have no experience with, but I could help you find care info. All of them need besides the pancake need large oudoor enclosures and need to be fed greens with some veggies and a little bit of fruit. Some sp. (I know at least redfoots) also enjoy meat like pinky mice, but it shouldn't be a staple. If you could give me a list of what you are looking for I could help you single out a species.

I recently became the owner of a rescued 5-6 year old male Sulcata Tortoise. I'm still a bit new to the tortoise scene but not to keeping reptiles. If there's one thing I'd like to stress it's that these are animals that can require a good deal of space, varied diets and they can live a VERY LONG TIME. Too many people want a tortoise but when it out grows the cute baby stage they think they can just drop it off at the zoo. Very few zoos will take animals because they are already overwhelmed by others thinking the same thing.

I very much agree. I've wanted a tortoise for years and have researched redfoots for about a year and I still question whether or not I should get one. They are not an impulse buy animal. (not that any animal is, always do your research"
