My pair of H.carpintis spawned in early November last year and have been very pleased with growth rates and outcomes so I thought I would share a few pics.

Newly free swimming fry mid November.

02/04/14 (Nudging on 10cm) This is the only one I have kept and is really starting to grow a lot quicker than I expected.

The funny thing is that this little guy was actually used as a feeder when thinning the numbers out and it managed to survive.

Could any one tell me if this guy is growing pretty quick or is it still within normality? Since the last pic it has grown another inch and is approx 5" (12.5cm) and has started trying to destroy its male blue acara tank mate. So is 5" at just over 5 months old pretty decent because I have read a few times on other forums to expect around 6"-7" at 1 year of age.

Here is another pic.

Its such a contrast from the look of them normally isn't it. They were the best parents aswell. Within a week of buying the male I had eggs in the tank and was a perfect spawn with at least 700-800 at free swimming stage. Now less than 6 months after buying the male its offspring is already 5". It all happened a lot quicker than I expected.

Is it just me or is the rather odd coloration for a Texas?

I did try to sell the fry but I had trouble even giving them away in the end. I gave about 10 to the local petshop and used the rest as feeders but none of the other fry looked quite like this one though.
