Can you keep fish from breeding?

With two fish of same species in same tank can you keep them from breeding? With out separating them in two tanks and without putting up a divider? Or is their nature going to over come anything I do and they just bump like the fish they are

Um...what Crush and Karl said. I'm setting up a breeder aquarium (guppies and cherry shrimp) just to keep feeding costs down. We also have a lfs here that gives store credit for babies. My daughter has a small guppy tank (along with a little otocinclus) and she's keeping the first batch of babies, 4 cute little guys, but selling any new fry that come along.

i had lotsa fh in 2002 back in college. even 3-4 inches just laid their eggs on the glass. after that, they eat 'em. no prob. self-cleaning :D.
