So I bought one of these ages ago and just never got around to setting it up. Went to do it yesterday when I was doing a water change and the stupid thing doesn't fit on the FX6 hosing :( Anyone had the same problem with this and can shed some light on the situation? I'd really like to get this up and running.

Thanks

What size hose does the fx6 use? If its 3/4 then you can buy the 3/4 to 5/8 reducers fitting at autozone

You dont really want to reduced the flow on that filter. I faced the same issue but my tank is 210 gallons and I use the FX5. All I did is plumb two heaters side by side and fed them with a single large barb fitting in and out and used Black pond tubing. It has worked great for a few years now with no problems.

So its just simple PVC fittings. A 1" barb adapter into two 1/2" barbs. The 5/8" heater tubing will work on the 1/2" barbs but will be slightly loose so a hose clamp is absolutely necessary. Just make two of these, one at the bottom and one at the top with some short 5/8" tubing to connect. Then you will have to replace the Fluval ribbed tubing with smooth type. I also made custom PVC spray bars, but you will have to figure a way to get the output of water into the tank.

Hope that made sense.

Actually I had changed the barbed fitting a little but this is what is going on under my stand. Had to zip tie it in to keep heaters upright
