Help Id this guy I picked up today. He's about 4-5 inches long. He was labeled as palmas and the lfs wasn't sure what type. So I took a chance. He's been on a light substrate for a few months. Hoping that since I've put him on black sand he will color up nicely. Thanks in advance for any help

It's a polypterus senegalus not one of the palmas complex. Still a nice looking little guy though

I didn't think senegals had green coloring on their heads. It might be due to my crappy phone pics but in person it looks nothing like any of the three senegals I've had

Thanks for the info. I've never seen a senegal like this so I'm still happy with him even though now im sure i over paid. My other two are around 9" now but they're just grey overall and have nothing like his coloring. Hopefully his colors stay even as he gets bigger. Guess ill have to order a real palmas in the future because that's really what I wanted to add to my current stock

It wasn't from a chain store but Im not sure what supplier they got it from. It was just weird since they had a tank I small senegals at the same lfs and they looked plain like my other senegals do. Thanks for your help guys

I got my sen at 3-4" at pet smart. Now at 7+" he's green. I was thinking it might be due to him being on black substrate so when he darkened up the green came out.
