That's the reason I didn't get them. I know nothing about acaras. I really like rhem. Can you tell the difference between male and female?

I have an idea how to from speaking to the lfs owner.
And by looking at them I think I may have a male and female.
I think I may go back and pick up a few more .

At the moment, the theory seems to be that they are genetically modified blue acaras (Andinoacara pulcher). They get to be about 5-6" and most people report them being much more aggressive than A. pulcher. I kept one for a bit, but it began to terrorize some of my other fish, so I rehomed it. They breed true, but the fry tend to have a high mortality rate like EBJDs do. I know some people are experimenting with breeding them with A. pulcher to see if the EB gene sticks.

I haven't seen a high mortality rate in the fry. They grow a bit slow but there haven't been any more deaths than I'd expect from a normal acara. They do breed 100% true.

Mine seem to lock lips and fight with my other fish alot but nothing harmful. Little guy is about 3.5" and tries to take on a 6-7" peacock bass haha. You'll know when they are angry because they darken themselves and half their face turns black. Seems like once they get to about 3" they slow down alot.
