Females are typically rounder and don't have the spots male have and ime experience are usually more pale, the head profile also differs. Here's a female (not my fish or pic)uploadfromtaptalk1397575656135.jpg

Similar to other cichlids a good sign is the point on dorsal fin show it is a male, although this is less apparent in older fish, some females also get a point with age but usually have rounded dorsal at younger ages. I've only ever owned one jaguar, and a few weeks in my catfish at it for breakfast so never had much time to educate myself on them but I am a huge fan.
