Probably going to need an under jaw pic for a proper ID......

Wish I could be more help but I'm pretty sure that's what it's going to take ;)

Sweet Wolf regardless of what it is!

What is strange about this fish is that the gills under the jaw meet at the tip whilst all malas i've ever owned had a slight gap.

That's hilarious he lets you get that close without freaking out. I'm convinced mine would bite the crap out of me before I got anywhere close to being able to touch him.

Not sure which one you've got here, but it is extremely nice looking. I don't know if lacs get their distinctive head shape only when larger, but this one doesn't seem to have the slope on the top like I would expect. I haven't seen enough intermedius or australis to be able to ID them by sight yet. I would have jumped on this one regardless though, nice looking fish.

I think they need to be pretty big to have the head shape, as Aimara have the same slope but don't seem to really start growing into it till a foot and a half+.

I should try to get some jaw shots of Lucy to compare......
