Hi guys,

Just picked up this beautiful IT Datnoid about 12in long! It was the last one left from a seller on craigslist. Im guessing because there were probably some people who didn't like this one's barring / or that its not symmetrical but I think it is awesome. Just wanted to share my excitement. Sorry for the pics I have the worst camera.

Looks good! Hard to pass up 12" dats. Random question... is that an intake strainer half buried in sand in the 2nd pic? Cant imagine thats good for an impeller lol

Great question! I figured when posting that pick someone would ask. First I would like to start off by saying that is my "secondary filteration" the hob emperor 400. My primary is a rena Filstar fx3 canister filter. But yes I didnt think too hard when I got the substrate that the filter could pull some of the sand. The good news is that the intake of that filter is about 2 foot long and the sand rarely makes it up to the impeller (i know from cleaning). That being said, if I did it again I would not have the intake so low but as you can see I already preformed it into position.

I thought it looked kinda like a fx5 strainer and I know because of design sand will destroy them. Sounds like you got it under control. Keep us updated

Definitely. I dont know if because its 2 feet long intake the sand doesn't make it up or if because the filtration power isnt that strong. The outflow looks perfectly normally. Again im not too worried because its not my primary filtration but I am definitely keeping an eye on it. And yeah it doesnt help having an oscar in that tank that does oscar things like rip up plants, spit our sand, and make a general mess of everything. :) lol
