can anyone give me a quick comparison of lighting? I tried googling but it's a bit advanced and I'm wondering if anyone can put it in laymans terms.

i wanna know the difference between fluorescent, LED, metal halides in term of intensity, uses and color temps....

i work in a LFS and wanted a little bit more background info so i could help people out more.

Well hid's (high intensity discharge) is basically the color of the light, it ranges from yellow to white. generally it goes from 2300k to 6500k which it does go higher but 6500k is basically white or arctic white. Generally this is used in tanks with coral to act as the moon but planted tank owners do love the red hue as its great for aquaponics.

florescent is most generally used as its the cheapest and most effective based by price but leds are over rated to me personally. Those 300 dollar led lights are basically just 20 dollars worth of leds on ebay with a switch board lol
