I have a male dovii about 12 inches long, what tank mates would be good for him?

Water and nothing else. Depending on tank size you can add a female but dovii eventually end up alone for a good reason, they don't play nice.

I thought about catching some bass out of a lake around where I stay and put maybe 2 of them in there with him, but I would make sure they are larger than him.

Tank size? And depending on bass species they may just beat on him or he'd kill them before they get settled in enough to fight back. Not to mention the possible parasites they could bring into your tank

Leave him alone he will just kill anything you put with him. 125 is small to a 12 male dovii. Wait till you upgrade before you even try to have him live with anything
