Would this be worth it?

I'm setting up a 30 long within the next month and I have a penguin 200 bio wheel hang on back. The filter is used and have crusty stuff all over it so I'm in the process of cleaning it up and once I do place it on my 75 to get a bacteria buildup that way I can insta-cycle the new tank and add fish immediately (of course I'll still be monitoring params for the first month every day and changing water at any sign if ammonia or nitrite). Until I have the actual filter up and clean would it be worth it to clean off the bio wheel and just let it float in the established tank to get a head start on building up bacteria?

I could also just teather it to a rock with a rubber band so it stays on the bottom. Might just be easier to get a sponge filter though :)
