Aquariums are typically listed & marketed in gallons, by their outside dimensions (as a sales ploy), therefore the actual volume of water the tank holds will generally not match up to what the tank is listed at.
Using your measurements, it's 200 based on the inside and 215 based on the outside. So, you were told wrong. Maybe they thought it was a 240.
