How does salt travel?

Hello all,

I am considering setting up some saltwater tanks in the center of my room my issue is most of my stands are metal and painted with a normal oil based paint, this setup would leave 1.5m each side from the tiers just wondering if this would cause rust??

My understanding is when water evaporates from saltwater its only freshwater hence the RO top up, so in that sense as long as I dont splash saltwater all over the stands I should be fine correct?

cheers

When saltwater evaporates only the water does so, leaving behind the salt (Which is why salinity changes with evaporation). If you're using a HOB filter or other equipment that possibly disturbs the surface you may get some slight salt spray, but other than the splashes that you will make during WC's, the salt should be mostly contained. With that said, in the past I've used stands or had metal around SW tanks and they eventually rusted no matter how careful I was.

Of course, I'm rather ungraceful at this whole water change thing...
