Patching 2 bulkheads need advice

Hello I have a 240 gallon acrylic aquarium. It's 3/4" thick. I have 2 holes that are 3/4" do I need a 3/4" thick piece of acrylic to cover the hole? Would just using weld on #16 work? I can't use bulkheads to cover them cause there a beam in my stand that prevents that.

I'm not familiar with the #16 stuff but I have plugged holes in tanks with a piece of glass or acrylic on both sides of the panel to cover the hole,siliconed in place and with enough silicone in between the pieces to fill in the hole....might not be very pretty depending on which panel the hole is on but it's worked for me for quite a number of years.

I would think 1/4" thick piece would be okay. If it were me I would do 1/4" thick by 2" squared. I would place Weld-on on the 2" sq. piece, place it over the hole and put something heavy on it for at least a few hours. Then after you feel it's dried flip the tank over and put some in the hole it's self. I did this with a sump and seemed to work good. GL

if i am reading it right hole ID is 3/4" , makes my statement wrong. and never mind. my 180 has 4" bulls drilled in the bottom. I used them tho for reverse UG with 8" sponges on the stand ups.

I may be wrong here but i would not cap bottom and top, just the inside, in my pea brain mind i sea a air chamber in between the 2. this could lead to expansion gas problems, i would just cap the inside. but as stated my pea brain.

You could be onto something in the case you described Pops but I filled the area between the two pieces in completely with silicone.Its solid so there is really no space for any air pockets.

what kritch mentions could be a fix. but other wise I would just just patch from the inside, weld-on great stuff if proper prep done, pressure will be from above and should not be a problem.
