Need some advice on this filter I have a 2217 and live it so I wanted to get the 2262 for a larger tank that I will be getting in the next month or two but cannot find one sold with all the media. So question is what size mech and substrate pro should I order and I cant find the filter pads for this model are they are to come by?

You are on your own with this filter. I have two of them and have both set up the same way. A layer of nylon pot scrubbers on the bottom. About 4 1/2 gallon of matrix and a sheet of quilt batting on top. They don't make any precut media for this filter. I thought about poret foam for the bottom but that stuff ain't cheap and I was going to have a lot of waste. Not that matrix is cheap.

you think two 2217s plus an ac110 (set up for mech) would be ok ? tank will be either 120 or 150

I have 2 2217 on a 57g. Great filter, but not sure id want them on much bigger tank. 2262 is a monster and id highly recommend buying a 20L bucket of pond matrix. Usually around 100-125 but its a lot of media and a massive filter.

I would go with the fx6 but dont like the propeller set up.
If I did the 2262 and want to stick to the mech foam and substrate pro set up how much would I need to buy of the eheim mech and substrate pro ?
Set up like this mech- foam maybe poret-substrate pro-then either floss or more poret-substrate or nothing

Rethought that set up from bottom to top
Eheim mech- eheim efi fix - matrix - filter floss

How much mech and matrix should I buy

Rodger did you fit 4 1/2 gallons of matrix

Birch did all 20L fit into your? How is your set up?

I helped a friend setup his and he did a fine layer of eheim mech then 2" poret and most of the bucket of pond matrix. Its hard to imagine the size of that filter but its basically a 5 gallon bucket with a big pump on top so you are going to need a lot of media. Dont get me wrong eheim media is nice but thats a lot of media to fill a 2262

I just bought a 2262 and ended up getting 15L of the Substrate Pro. I believe it says 18L capacity. If you go with the Matrix I would buy the whole 20L.
