I have always used canister filters on my tank but im starting to resent the maintenance. is it possible to use a sump on a tank that doesnt have any drilled holes or a built in overflow?? is there some other way people use sumps. sorry if my questions not clear i feel like a noob right now haha. thanks for the help!

Excellent overflow box mentioned. there are other brands and types for other budgets. You can also drill a tank yourself and add an overflow box if you would rather

i just drilled my tank yesterday. first time to drill glass ever. It is really simple just take it nice and slow, don't rush at all, and keep water on it (my girlfriend pointed the water hose to where i was drilling and just kept it going). if you want to drill i say go for it.
