New to the site. Had a 50gl saltwater invert tank years back and I currently have a 170 gl glass tank that I want to try a reef system. I have a thick 1/4" glass tank and want to plumb through the glass in the back or bottom to the stand below. What are the best tools and methods learned by anyone to bore the holes who has gone down this path.

You first need to find out if the tank glass is tempered (can't drill) or plate glass. Do you know the manufacturer of your aquarium?

You can purchase a glass hole saw to drill the tank. It's a specialty saw that is diamond encrusted and requires a water bath or spritzing to use properly.

You also need to know the size of the hole saw to purchase, this will depend on the fitting size you purchase.
