I just set up a bio filter for my ray tank and have a couple questions for the
mfk-ers that have been doing this for awhile.
First: I designed my reactor with a drain on the bottom, so I can drain out dead bacteria.
How often should be necessary?
I'm using a big blue barrel so I can't see inside.

Second: I'm using a meg7 inside reactor for circulation, but how much flow through reactor is best?
Lots of flow? Or
Little flow?
Right now I only have about 400 gals/hr.
Running through it..

I'm using 1 cu/ft of ultima media now and planning on adding another in a couple weeks.

Any insight or opinion would be great.
Thanks.

Looks good

I run 500 gph through mine.

You shouldnt ever need to do any cleaning out of the bottom of the reactor if you have enough air running through

Every time ive ever took apart my reactors they were super clean and spotless on the bottom even after running for years

That's cool. Thanks for the info.
Just wanted to be sure.
At least now I have a nice drain on this 55 gal. drum..

I'm even using a pre filter before entering reactor.

Do you advice using more than 2 cu/ ft.
Or should I just keep checking perms?
I've never had any ammonia or nitrite problems. I just felt like it wouldn't hurt.

Here's what mine looks like.
I've only had it running since Saturday afternoon.

The one thing I did notice is, with reactor, I notice a little more smell in the room.
Is this normal?

What is the most efficient with the most air flow pump?
I need something to run my bio reactor and tanks.
But also something that won't kill my electric bill

Could anyone help me out?

AP100. did the trick.
Plenty of air for what I need it for.
Now I can even add a couple more bigger air stones to my reactor.

I've been using the bottom drain on my reactor once a week. And every week, I drain out a good gallon worth of crap.
