I think you are misunderstanding me. Falkneri and castexi are literally the same species, with falkneri being the valid species name.

Yes, that is one way to look at it. But it sadly also means that most people will carry on believing that castexi is a species. And it simply is not.

Same thing applies to P. reticulatus (etc).

The Falks imported from Argentina are what the Sao felix leos are to the common leopoldi. That is how I like to look at it.

But no, the pictured fish is not an "Estrella" falkneri from peru.


Here is a hint: It was caught in brazil.
