I'm changing the sand in my 140g. The 140g is home to 5 Frontosa Burundi, 1 Synodontis Eupterus, 1 Synodontis Hybrid, 1 Synodontis unidentified, 3 striped raphael catfish, and in the future possibly leleupi, Neolamprologus Brevis, Cyprochromis Leptosoma and other smaller Tanganyika Cichlids. ( I know there is a chance that the Frontosa Burundi will eat the smaller Cichlids.) my question is what sand size would be best here. I can get poolfilter sand, but Im afraid it might have sharp edges or something.

Ive never used pool filter sand but tons of people do without any issues with fish like geos rays and birchirs which all would be much more sensitive to sharp substrate than cichlids. Personally I prefer caribsea sand because I HATE washing sand and it looks great

Have used pfs often in the past and it works fine. Heavy enough not to get kicked up. Just usually the same Grey color like in my avatar

I can get 0,4 - 0,8mm or 0,71 - 1,25mm or 1,4 - 2,5mm poolsand.
Isnt 3mm to large for cichlids like leleupi?
