Does uv filters eliminate ammonia nitrites nitrates problems or is it more for ick and other bacterias?

Nothing to do with ammonia, nitrites & nitrates, you can get a nitrate reactor or use plants for nitrates, a sufficient amount of bio media & water changes will keep it under control also.

UVs will help with algae & bacteria different needs require different strengths.

My current setup is doing pretty well on its cycles, was just thinking if the uv filter would make it better. Might go ahead and buy a uv filter for the aquarium just as a prevention tool.

It cant hurt to have one, some say it will lower the immune system of the fish but thats the only down point I have ever heard & its questionable to some extent.

Wouldn't hurt to google a UV chart so you can see wattages / turn over rates required to kill different objects, will give you a better idea of what to aim for.
