I have a xp4 canister filter that I have setup the way the book shows using the foam pads, bio chem stars and a couple bags of api's bio chem sorb. I am looking to change this and could use some help, here is what I was thinking of doing.

In the top tray: Pelleted Carbon or Fluval Biomax
In the second tray: Eheim Substrate Pro
In the third tray: Seachem Matrix
In the bottom tray: Filter Floss
Rena 30 pad
Rena 20 pad

Does this seem better? Should I use Carbon or the Fluval Biomax?

I also have two Emperor 400 hob's so changing the canister filter media completely should not be much of an issue, the aquarium load is somewhat low in this well established tank.

I would leave some(most )of the stars in the can to avoid an ammonia spike..also from what I hear , they don't suck, maybe put theem in the bottom tray above the floss
