Cute but strange indeed. Is it otherwise healthy? Same good appetite? Is the whole tank healthy and no new behaviors noted for others?

Has he been evicted from his previous hiding spot? He's maybe trying to find a new hiding hole

I'd give him a new hiding spot and see if he stops doing that. Mine used to do that but only at feeding time.

Hes not been evicted as hes currently back in his spot. Tank is good. I believe some cichlids are attempting to breed is the only habit changes there. Maybe they stirred around him a bit much.

That's the norm and I'd echo that... which makes this new and puzzling.

Keep us updated and if you think t may help, tell us more about the tank - current parameters, history, tankmates, tank pictures, etc.

Is it eating very well as usual and as it should?
