If I remove all the sponges from my 2x AC 110 and insert a PVC in the sponge foam then insert the sponge foam into the AC 110 inlet. Then fill my AC 110 with ceramics with no mechanical filter at all. Good idea? Essentially the AC 110 will serve as the suction instead of an air stone. Then the foam serves as both a sponge filter and prefilter.

not a good ideal, AC110 are great mech filters, putting a bag of matrix on top of the foam good ideal, that's what i do, but still a HoB, best on the market IMHO. looking to up bio filtration you want a canister. much larger bio media capacity and slower flow. this alouse(sp) for full processing of ammonia/nitrite. Hob have a higher flow rate, this makes them better at mech filtration.

you are looking for 10x GPH for tank volume on a HoB, and 5x water volume on a canister.
