I know many people use pots, but do you have to prepare them before going in your tank? I have seen mixed information on pots leaching into the water or maybe even place of manufacture and contaminates. Also, I have seen where many rated them as great beneficial bacteria colony builders due to porosity. Thoughts? Experiences?

The above.

Have been keeping them for decades. Optimum media colonisation, also.

No idea..when needed i break mine with small hammer strikes..

I would imagine an electrical saw would do the trcik, with water added to the cutting?

I always use a nail to pierce a hole, then blunt edge to tap whatever I want off

Diamond cutter on a dremel works awesome. Whether cutting pots or slatre, this is the way to go.
