They're are way too many to research.
So I thought I'd just ask the pros.

I need an air pump to run my 55 gallon bio reactor with 2 cu.ft of media and have plenty air left to run the rest of my tanks.

I would also like to find something energy efficient.
Looking for the best of both worlds.

I'd appreciate any ideas.
Thanks you.

Have you looked at the Pondmaster AP100? Have that on a 30 gallon reactor with 2 cuft of media with zero issues. I believe it is rated at 100 watts.

I'll check on that.
LFS had a 40 and it wasn't enough.
What did you pay for it?

Couldn't even begin to calculate cost. It was part of a package when I bought a tank.

Also I take that back. It is an Easypro EPW4. Similar to the Pondmaster AP100. 35 watts on that one.

I did a lot of research on air pumps.

You're going to have to spend 3-4 TIMES more then the cost of a Pondmaster AP100 to beat it. (Usually sell for around $150 new). I ended up needing more air then one can provide so I did more research and just ended up buying another one cause nothing seems to come close for the money.

What you need to know - the trade off for this pump is having to rebuild it (replace ripped diaphrams) every year.

AP 100s are 100 watts.

What about the rotary style?
Anyone research those?
Fish store suggest that. But they're still checking on cost

When I was looking for a pump I was looking for the best performance/efficiency for the money. Didn't matter what kind of pump.

Rotary as in a blower? If so efficiency is poor and no PSI. I ran a Gast blower I bought from a fish store when they closed down. Worthless in 30+" of water. The noise alone made me want to smash the thing.

I am another big fan of the AP100. When you take power consumption, cost of rebuild, initial cost and output all into consideration I will eat my hat if you find a better pump.
