Hello everyone. This is my first post here.

Well basically I have a 45 gallon aquarium that needs fish. I have a filter that has a 22x turnover rate, so bioload is not an issue.

I have a conflict: I love monster fish, but also love ecosystems.

Jack Dempseys and Oscars are my dream fish. However, I love the idea of an actual ecosystem.

Right now I have two ideas:

1 green severum with 2-3 convicts. Planted with hardy flora

Or

1 jack dempsey/oscar and a mud turtle.

What do yoy guys think? What should I go with? Any ideas/advice/information is appreciated, so dont be hesitant with your answers.

Thanks for the help!

Go with the severum. And the convicts but make sure they are all females. If it's heavily planted 2 females should be ok. If you get a male when they breed he will likely kill the severum. A 45 is much too small for an oscar and even a female Dempsey is borderline too big.

Would a severum do well with a musk turtle? By themselves?
