what does MFK think would work?

the bichir is about 9 inches big and alone in a planted 55g tank. any suggestions for something colorful that is active and wont destroy the plants + get along with the bichir?

Angelfish go well with bichirs if you size them correctly.

I have a lot with my bichir in my planted tank.

Blood parrot
red jewel
EBJD
frontosa
had angels
Discus
rainbow shark

If he can't eat it, you should be fine. The only fish I have avoided is puffers.

I had a red jewel. Kept nipping fins so I got rid of it.

If you don't mind Geophagus uprooting plants, they would be ok. I just have different anubias species with weights.

Pink tail chalceus
Gouramis
Ctenopomas
Blue Acara
Firemouth

was also going to add this. Sometimes I catch my red jewels moving my rocks on one side of the swords I have. Never had a nipping fin problem though.
