Anyone else here a former visitor of the rec.aquaria newsgroups?

I used the rec.aquaria.* newsgroups very heavily in the 90s. It was an awesome place to get aquarium related info. Something happened in the 2000s that made a bunch of people abandon those newsgroups (other than the general decline of Usenet in the 2000s). I'm wondering if anyone here knows what happened.
