I recently got a baby silver arowana last month around 5". Only fed him 2 ZD when he was new because he was so skittish that he won't even swim around without the smaller fish. He is fed daily with Hikari Food Sticks, but 1 of its eye is already showing drop eye. He is around 6-8" now or even longer. I guess its captive bred since even though its a baby it is already showing DE.

Feed floating food. Don't have any bottom fishes. I've seen a 2' silver aro with no dropeye.

The problem is Arowana live in muddy rivers not a clear tank with lots of reflections

I think its just nature of the beast mine always got it if not right away when it got older, your best bet is try to get a black Arowana they tend to not get it but there are no guarantee they wont, they take longer to grow out so tank size does not come up as fast as silvers.

Would try Black aro next time. Its just that I don't mind paying 90$ for 2-3", what scares me is because its so small that Idk if it will survive or it will die because of stress.

Try using a different color top floating object. I've had aros in that stage of de and helped them from that stage. I used those 25. Cent dice in the huge gumball machine in old navy clothing store. I used the highlighter green color and always have used it. I have yet to own an Aro with drop eye after using it. Mostly owned silvers. Gl

I have seen ones about 12 to 14 inches for $240 they called them blue but they looked like blacks to me they were in Queens NY. And there is one for sale at BTJ Jungle Long Island for $350 its about 16 inches long, they keep it in a small tank so not really bulked up yet.I would take a chance something like that before I spent $90 on such a small one.

Nothing you can do,even the fancy so called albino silver arowans will get drop eye. Stick to black arowana, owned five and not one gets drop eye as they are all wild caught unlike silvers being sold which are inbred captive bred fish.

Is that why the black aros don't get this condition, because they are not captive bred?
