2.5 gal filter killed over...

Okay wow what are the odds I just started using my 2.5 gal for fish again and of course the next day the filter kills over... It's making the loudest most unbearable noise that sounds like the construction workers drilling infernally back when I was living in NYC... I tried unplugging and replacing the filter cartridge but nothing works. I need a replacement fast but petco doesn't sell filters that small unless I get a new kit... -_-

Maybe I can buy a cheap filter online or if anyone knows any ideas to try to fix this thing that would be great
