I cannot find garnet sand (reddish color sand) any where near me.... Is there any other sand that would make the colors on the bichirs come out more like garnet sand does? The black sand is makin them to dark to where I can't see their patterns very well
Would mixing a bag of white sand in with the black sand work?

whats your stock? different bichirs look better on different types of sand for example most UJ look good on black and most LJ look good on red/garnet (I say most, because I've run into a few that are the opposite)
