Alge problem!

Hi mfkrs,

I have a 100 gallon rimless aquarium in which I have large white stones 2-4 inch approximate in size.

The lighting is a led submersible bar pinkish in color.

Now I have alge growing on the white stone which look disgusting.

I heard some guy explaining peroxide 3% does the magic it kind of breaks it immediately.

Do any of you have experience with that??
Or maybe a better &faster solution for me.

I will be adding some plants later on.

Looking foward to helpful tips.

Peroxide does work. I used it and I would only spray it when the water is low and directly onto the algae. The algae dissapears after a few days

Peroxide works, you can spot treat or dose just before wc.

Peroxide is going to treat the algae but not the issue causing it. Id try to figure out how to stop the algae from growing rather than try to clean it up. Common reasons for algae are excess nutrients, excess light etc.

First we need to identify the type of algae.

For example h2o2 will not work on GSA.

This.

Including excess food, not enough water changes. Don't put your tank near natural direct sunlight, don't keep the overhead tank lights on all day unless you have plants. etc...

ok guys so now I got the peroxide 3%.
It will be difficult for me to spray it on the "infected" places cause its over almost all of my stones.
can I just mix it in the water during the next WC??
what I the best dosage for my 100 gallon??

I think in my opinion my excess light(led bar) is the biggest problem but i'm already trying on it to reduce it by a few hours .

You can spot treat or dose the tank. I believe I used 2tsp per 10g, turn off filter but run a powerhead or hob without bio to circulate the peroxide.If you gooGoogle peroxide for bba there are a lot of good threads on theplantedtank.

Removing the stones and treating them in a bucket would be WAY easier

If you were to spot treat inside the tank you risk killing off the bacteria in your substrate as well

Are we sure we are treating BBA?
