Six years ago I got a young corn snake from petsmart. A few months later I realized I had more than I could handle when my youngest was born so I gave him to an older friend who had several snakes. Fast forward to this week and they are moving and asked if I wanted the snake back. I picked him up yesterday and found out he's still in the 10g terrarium I originally had, with about 5 inches of aspen and a small water bowl, so he's in desperate need of an upgrade. I'm picking up a 40g breeder style next week and planning to add several hides, driftwood, a much larger water bowl, and some live plants.
My main concern is that he seems pretty small. He's at least 6 years old and just over 2 ft. I look at pictures of other corns and younger ones are much thicker and longer than he seems. He's about as round as a quarter at his thickest point. I guess they were feeding every 2-3 weeks, I don't know how large of pinkies/furries. Am I just paranoid? If he's smaller due to cramped quarters and too little food will he bounce back? I am planning on feeding him in a few days once he settles in so he can have time to digest before I stress him by moving him to a new tank. No visible signs of illness, he doesn't have problems with regurgitating according to my friend.
On a positive note both of my boys went from totally against a pet snake to in love with him in literally 5 minutes. My husband is not a convert... yet.
