You can never overfilter a tank.
The more filtration the better.

Yes and no. You can have too much flow and stress out a fish. You can have more filtration than needed. No it isnt a bad thing

Yeah, the only way it would be a problem is if the flow is so high that your fish are bouncing around the tank

Never used em. I usually try to get about 10x turnover plus or minus depending on the fish and stocking etc

As said they should work ok depending on stock but one tip os be weary of manufacturers numbers. GPH and filter volume are what matter the other number is silly. Beware though lots of manufacturers will tell you the pump gph or flow without media.

Example: fluval fx5 loves to use the number 954gph in advertising. That is what the pump can move. Open up the manual and it will say equal length hoses and no media it should flow 563gph. Now add media and actual flow is probably more in the 400gph range. Eheim is the only company I know of that lists gph with hoses and media and actually setup how someone would use it

I would say I'm heavily stocked. Current stock is 1 13inch aro. 1 8 inch texas, 1 7 inch Dempsey, 1 7 inch jaguar, 1 10 inch clown knife, 1 12 inch pleco, 1 8 inch leopard spotted cat, 1. 5inch pictus cat. Im currently in the market for a 300-500 gal tank so with in the next month or so ill be upgraded I know allot of these fish get really big but currently they are not crammed.
