Anyone have experience with this? I have a pair of midas that are guarding 5 day old babies. I want to make sure I get them out before they become food for the others in the tank.

I find Midas to be great parents. Only trouble I have had was the other way around fry getting to big and eating on the parents.

Same here, or the father wants to spawn again and kills the mother even though they still have fry. That's what happened with me, now I have to raise the fry to get another pair. I will be keeping the divider on next time.

Thanks, Guys. This is my first experience with midas.

I got these from Gage last year. I got 9 from him and only one was supposed to be female. I ended up getting 4 females.

The first set paired up in my main tank and started getting real aggressive with everyone else. I moved them into another tank and the male turned and killed the female.

Here are some pictures. They wouldn't cooperate so they are not very good.

The male that killed his female got sentenced to the sump. So much for my platy's. I wish I could get a picture of him. He is solid orange and beautiful.

Male / Father of babies. He is about 10" and is just starting to get rid of his juvenile look. Kinda awkward looking right now.

Mom and Dad protecting babies. Incidentally, the babies started free swimming today. These pictures were taken yesterday.

Male that was moved to another tank with his paired up female. I like this guy. I'm excited to see how he will mature. He is also about 10".

Male and female. The female has a nice little nuchal hump going on.
