Just 5sw it and its running fine very. When i do tank maintence or wc on my 55 i turn my 2217 off by closing the out put valve then closing the input then unplugging. Starting it back up I plug it in open the input then open the output. Is it the same for the fx6 or does it have to be self primed every time you turn it off?

You mean before opening the valves instead of turning it on ?

After maintenance, I will fill up the canister with tank water until almost full. Replace the cover, tighten up all the knobs, attach the valves, open it up. Then I wait until bubbles stop before turning it on.

There is no need to unplug or close valves just to do rank maintenance. Unless I am going to clean the cannister I don't turn it off.

I never turn off my canister filters unless servicing them even with sand substrate. I do notice that even though the FX5 intake was 6" to 8" off the substrate, it always has sand it in when cleaning the filter.
