Hi all,

I need help identifying the parasites on a 4" Brown Ghost Knife. No other fish have it. He acts normally.
I have been treating the whole tank with PraziPro and half the recommended amount of salt.

They look like little worms on the side of his body.
I appreciate any help possible, Thanks.

How long have you had this fish? They look like they could be flukes. Did it cime with these or did it devlope them in your tank?

I've had this fish for well over 3 months. There were no signs for months until a few weeks ago. I think it may have developed in the tank because I did convert from Native cold water fish to tropical about a year ago.

While in addition to treating the main tank with the Prazi, give the fish a daly 30 min bath of salt @ 1/2 teaspoon per 5 gallons and 1 teaspoon of Methylene Blue per 5 gallons (double the recomended in tank dosage). Use tank water for the bath and disgard after use. Do this every day for a week.

I did a salt dip yesterday, but I ordered some methylene blue, so I will wait until it comes tomorrow to start what you recommended.
Here is a video of him after feeding a cube of frozen brine shrimp.

He looks like he's in good shape other wies. Try the meth blue and see how it goes.

I was going through some old pics of when I first got him. I think he actually had a fluke on the rear of his fin. I always thought it was just a marking, but when I have been researching and saw pictures of other Brown Ghost Knives, none of them had markings. That rear fluke was the biggest of them all. Regardless now, It does not matter. He passed away after his 5th treatment of methylene blue/salt dips. I don't think it was the dips that killed him. The differences were that this last time, I fed the tank first, and then did the treatment. About 3 hours later, I did a water change. About 30%.

Throughout the treatment, the flukes never seemed to change. None fell off or anything. I am continuing to treat the whole tank with prazipro for a month or so, just in case any parasites are still floating around.
